Phil Trainer Joins AFC Telford

Phil TrainerPhil Trainer, whose Oxford contract expires at the end of the season, has joined AFC Telford on loan for the remainder of the 2008/09 campaign. Having made 20 appearances for Oxford so far this season; Trainer has not been in such excellent form as he was last season, and although he’s been playing, his impact on the game just hasn’t been the same since picking up a pre-season injury.

Trainer is being moved on by manager Chris Wilder now rather than later, and with AFC Telford currently chasing promotion from the Blue Square North; Phil Trainer’s hope is that he’ll once more be playing Blue Square Premier League football next season.

Phil Trainer scored 15 goals during his time at Oxford, and really made a name for himself at the club last season. Having made 66 starts for Oxford, it’s sad to see Phil Trainer move on, but good that he’ll now have the rest of the season to help in AFC Telford’s challenge for promotion from the Blue Square North.

A lot of changes have been made at Oxford since Chris Wilder took over as manager last month, and many more changes are likely to take place at the club in the not too distant future too. Phil Trainer’s time at Oxford is over, and for the time being at least he’ll now have to play his trade in the league below.

27 year-old Phil Trainer is likely to give it his all for AFC Telford, and the club is lucky to have a player like him in the squad for the remainder of the season. Trainer should be a huge help in making promotion possible for AFC Telford this season, and is likely to make many starts before the seasons out.

AFC Telford is happy to have acquired Phil Trainer, and Oxford’s loss is Telford’s gain as we head into a crucial stage of the season. 21 games played for AFC Telford; there’s still another 21 to go, and Phil Trainer will now be looking to impress for The Bucks and hopefully help his team with goals as he has done at Oxford.
