Stephen Ireland Again Sends City Ahead, Only for the Team to Once More Lose 3-1

Stephen Ireland - Photo by OldelpasoJust like in the UEFA Cup game in midweek; Stephen Ireland scored first today, providing Manchester City with a 1-0 lead going into half-time. Clint Dempsey levelled the game with a goal in the 50th minute though, and former Manchester City player Dickson Etuhu then went on to score a second for Fulham.

Clint Dempsey scored his second of the game in the 83rd minute of the match, and the 3-1 win was then complete for Fulham; Fulham’s second consecutive away win, and also just the side’s second of the season.

Robinho was left on the bench for this one, and although he was brought on in the 63rd minute of the match for Petrov; he once more failed to shine, proving that Mark Hughes was right to leave him on the bench.

Of the entire Manchester City squad it was only really Stephen Ireland that performed today, and Richard Dunne had a particularly poor game. Dunne can be City’s best player on his day; not today though, and he made a number of mistakes throughout the match which a player of his quality really shouldn’t be making.

Manchester City deserved to lose this one, and credit where credit’s due; Fulham played well, and these were 3 points very well earned. Fulham has now climbed to 8th place; Manchester City meanwhile remains in 11th.
