Federico Macheda Does it Again for Manchester United
For the second Premier League game running; Federico Macheda has come on as a substitute and won the game for United.
Macheda, 17, started out his career in the Lazio youth system, before joining Manchester United as a trainee in September 2007. Macheda made his Manchester United debut last Sunday, scoring the winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa, and after once more making the bench in the mid-week draw with Porto, Macheda has now been given his second appearance for Manchester United, and once again has managed to find the net, scoring the winner in a 2-1 away win over Sunderland.
Macheda had only just come on as a substitute for Dimitar Berbatov when he scored the winner today, and after a mere matter of seconds on the field was able to steer the ball into the back of the net and ensure that Manchester United went back to the top of the Premier League table.
Liverpool had won 4-0 against Blackburn in their lunchtime kick-off on the emotional 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, and had therefore leapfrogged United to take their place at the very top of the table. Hours later and Manchester United was back at the top though, and although the team is still not back to its best; Manchester United is now looking a lot better than it was a few weeks ago, and United should therefore still be seen as the favourites to take the Premier League title. Arsenal will of course have a huge say in who wins the league this season as they still have Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United to look forward to; Manchester United is in pole position right now though, and still with a game in hand to play.
Federico Macheda is in explosive form right now, and the 17 year-old seemingly fears nothing and no one. Macheda has now won Manchester United 4 Premier League points in 2 appearances, and his contribution this season could ultimately prove to be worth millions. Manchester United still has 7 games to play this season in the Premier League alone, and the form that Macheda is in right now; I can see him scoring many more yet before the season’s over. There’s bound to come a time when Macheda will appear and not score, in just six days he’s already become an absolute fans favourite though, firing himself from obscurity and into the media spotlight.
Little over one week ago; Federico Macheda was a player scarcely known outside of Manchester, he’s now known all throughout Britain and beyond though, and may well be a Manchester United legend in the making.
