Macheda’s Late Goal Sends Manchester United Back to the Top
17 year-old Federico Macheda made his debut for Manchester United today, and the young Italian celebrated his first senior appearance for the club with what could prove to be Manchester United’s most important goal of the season.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first two goals for United, and rising star Danny Wellbeck could well have had the winner were it not for a fine save from Brad Friedel; in the 93rd minute of the match, Manchester United finally found a winner though, and the goal was scored by the young Italian debutant Federico Macheda.
Macheda’s goal was absolutely beautiful; a true contender for goal of the season the way he curled it around the goalkeeper and into the corner of the net. His movement leading up to the goal was beautiful, but his strike was then absolutely out of this world. Macheda is definitely a player for the future at Manchester United, and having risen through the ranks of the Lazio youth system; he now looks to have a bright future ahead of him in England.
Manchester United had been trailing the game 2-1 and looking at finishing the weekend second until Ronaldo’s 80th minute equaliser, but after Macheda’s later winner; Manchester United is back on top of the Premier League, with a game in hand still to play.
It’s advantage Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title, and that’s the way United will hope it will still be come the end of the season.
