Bellamy Double Sends Man City Through to the Last 16 of the UEFA Cup
Manchester City is into the last 16 of the UEFA Cup courtesy of two second half goals from Craig Bellamy. City is now the only English team left in the tournament after Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur both got dumped out this evening, and all English UEFA Cup hope now rests upon Man City’s shoulders.
Bellamy scored his first in the 73rd minute, following it swiftly with a second in the 80th minute of the match. Craig Bellamy was the best player on the pitch and will be thrilled to have bagged two goals in this one.
FC Copenhagen did put up a good fight, and pulled one back through Vingaard in the 90th minute; it was just too little too late for the Danish side though, and ultimately it was Manchester City that won the tie 4-3 on aggregate.
Manchester City will now face Aalborg in the last 16, another Danish team, and one that has already had a trip to Manchester this season in the group stage of the Champions League. Aalborg drew 2-2 at Old Trafford and will now be looking to go one better when a trip is made to the City of Manchester Stadium on March 12th.
Man City now has a strong chance of reaching the UEFA Cup quarter finals, and for Manchester City Football Club the UEFA Cup dream is still very much alive for 2009.
