Beckham Back in the England Squad

Published by richleigh at 11:30 pm under Soccer News Edit This

David BeckhamHaving impressed so far on his loan spell with AC Milan, David Beckham has earned an England call-up, and has been selected in the squad for the friendly game against Spain which is scheduled for February 11th.

If Beckham appears in the game then he’ll equal Bobby Moore’s record of 108 appearances for England. Peter Shilton is the most capped England player of all time with 125 international appearances; Bobby Moore currently holds the record as an outfield player though, and it’ll be a fantastic achievement for Beckham if he can equal Moore’s record in the game in Spain.

There are two new names in the England squad for the game against Spain, with Carlton Cole and James Milner both receiving their first call-ups at full international level. Friendly games provide an opportunity for experimentation by international managers, and I’m sure that Cole and Milner will both be excited at the prospect of earning their first cap for England.

It has been twelve and a half years now since Beckham received his first England cap in a game against Moldova on September 1st 1996. Beckham has gone on to have a hugely successful career in football, and I’m sure he still remembers well his first appearance at full international level.

Beckham has scored a few goals since joining Milan, and if he scores on Wednesday then that will be an absolutely fantastic way for him to mark his milestone 108th England cap.

I’m sure there will be many on Wednesday willing Fabio Capello to give Beckham his 108th cap for England. I for one will be amongst the many, and I’m sure there’ll be an almighty cheer if and when David Beckham makes his appearance on the field.

Good luck to David Beckham for Wednesday’s game, and here’s to hoping that the European champions Spain can be defeated by the almighty England.
