FA Cup Holders Portsmouth Dumped Out by Swansea
Last year’s FA Cup winners Portsmouth have today been beaten at home by Swansea City of the Championship. 2-0 Swansea won the game to overcome the cup holders, and fans of the Welsh club will now be dreaming of a trip to Wembley for the FA Cup Final this season.Nathan Dyer put the away team ahead after just 26 minutes, with Jason Scotland doubling the trouble just before half-time with a penalty. As dubious as the penalty decision was (the foul was committed outside the area); Swansea City thoroughly deserved the win, and put in an excellent second half display where they could easily have added to their tally.
Dimitrios Konstantopoulos put in an exceptional performance in the Swansea goal to deny Portsmouth from scoring on many occasions, and was without doubt the absolute man of the match. Konstantopoulos is actually on loan to Swansea from Coventry City right now, and based on today’s performance; Swansea should look to snap him up as soon as possible.
Nathan Dyer is also on loan at Swansea City at current, and just to add insult to injury for Portsmouth; he’s actually on loan from the club’s bitter rivals Southampton.
Swansea always had the potential to cause a shock at Fratton Park, and in winning the game 2-0 and knocking Tony Adams team out of the cup; a definite upset occurred today, and this win will no doubt have delighted all those involved with Swansea City Football Club.
Swansea City is into the fifth round of the FA Cup, and it’s certain that Portsmouth will not now be winning the cup for a second season running.
