Alex Revell Out for the Season
Southend United striker Alex Revell was last night stretchered off in a game against Leyton Orient. It has now been confirmed that he’s broken his leg and will therefore miss out on the rest of the season.
Revell, who started out his career at Cambridge United, has also in his career played for Kettering Town, Braintree Town, and Brighton & Hove Albion, before moving on to play for Southend in January 2008.
Since joining Southend United for £150,000, Alex Revell has gone on to score four goals for the club in the 2008/09 season, and since last January has made 24 starts in the league, and a further nine appearances from the bench. He’s a hard working striker, and although he’s yet to find the form that saw him score 18 goals in 59 starts at Brighton; he is still a very strong presence in the Southend United squad, and will no doubt be returning to first team action as soon as possible next season.
Alex Revell will be operated on this coming Thursday, and according to the official Southend United website “he’s looking at six months before he’s fully fit”.
This latest injury for Southend certainly puts a strain on the side’s frontline, and with the club currently working hard to bring in new players - Steve Tilson now has until February 2nd in order to try and draw in some fresh talent to the club.
Three Southend United players were sidelined yesterday, Alex Revell is out for the season, and a lot of work now needs to be done at the club. This is a tough time for Southend right now, and injuries certainly aren’t helping the club’s cause; Southend United fans rest assured however that every effort is being made to bolster the squad so that the team can begin to move up the League One table.
