Oxford United Face Potential Points Deduction
Oxford United may face a severe points punishment soon due to the fielding of an unregistered player. Transfer listed Eddie Hutchinson was not registered with the Football Conference at the start of the season, and yet was called into action for Oxford when injury struck the side earlier in the season.
The BBC reports that the problem came to light in November, by which point Oxford United had achieved 11 points from games involving Eddie Hutchinson. Oxford may now be hit with an 11 point deduction, and although currently chasing the play-offs; if the points are taken away then United will instead be plunged into the dark territory of a relegation rat race.
Oxford United was tipped as one of the favourites to win the league at the start of the season, things didn’t start well for the side however, and after recently doing well in achieving some very positive results; if the points are to be taken away then all the good work that has been done at the club will ultimately count for nothing.
11 points is a lot to lose at this stage of the season and this is certainly not something that Oxford United Football Club will want to have happen; Mansfield Town lost 4 points earlier in the season for a similar thing however, so the football club really needs to prepare for the worst.
