Van der Sar Signs Contract Extension
Manchester United’s Edwin Van der Sar has today signed a contract extension which will keep him at the club until 2010. His contract was due to expire at the end of the season, the 38 year old has agreed to extend it for another year however, and Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak will therefore just have to remain content with the fact that Van der Sar will remain Manchester United’s first choice for another season.
Van der Sar joined United in 2005 from Fulham, and during his time at Old Trafford has really shown himself to be an exceptionally talented goalkeeper. United had struggled to find a reliable goalkeeper after Peter Schmeichel left the club in 1999, when Van der Sar was brought into the club though; Manchester United had finally once more found a goalkeeper they could really rely on.
So Van der Sar will remain at United for another year, Foster and Kuszczak will continue to battle it out for when he leaves, and Alex Ferguson has his wish in keeping the Dutchman at the club for yet another year. There’ll be happy faces all round in Manchester this evening (on the red side that is), he may have retired now from international football, but for Manchester United he’ll be playing on right until the day his contract expires 2010.
