Gbenga Okunowo on Trial at Northwich Victoria
Former Barcelona player Gbenga Okunowo has joined Blue Square Premier side Northwich Victoria on trial, having most recently been on loan at Ukrainian club FC Stal Alchevsk. The defender has played less than 50 league games since joining Barcelona back in 1997, and injury has always held back his career throughout the years.
The ex-Nigerian international is hoping to get his career back on track at Northwich, he’ll be looking to get fully fit as soon as possible, and once he does get himself into good shape; there’s no doubt that he’ll be joining a club of a higher calibre.
Northwich Victoria currently sit 22nd in the Blue Square Premier with just 15 points from 19 games; the team is only one point better off than bottom side Lewes, and manager Steve King will be hoping that the experience of Okunowo in defence can have a positive effect on the strength and organisation of the Northwich backline. Northwich leak a lot of league goals right now; 35 already this season in fact, and even if Gbenga Okunowo’s stay is short lived at the Victoria Stadium, his knowledge and experience will surely prove vital.
