Lampard Sent Off as Chelsea Draw against Bordeaux
Not one of the most glamorous games of football you’ll ever see Chelsea play; the team was held to a draw in Bordeaux tonight, and Frank Lampard saw red. Lampard was sent off in the 86th minute after a second booking, and having led the game through a Nicolas Anelka goal; in the 83rd minute of the match Bordeaux grabbed themselves a late equaliser.
Bordeaux definitely deserved the draw from this game, this was a thoroughly lacklustre Chelsea performance and a win would really have flattered them. A win was what was required here to progress though, and with a win not having been achieved; Chelsea’s Champions League future now hangs in the balance. They’ll now have to win against CFR Cluj-Napoca on December 9th in order to guarantee a place in the final sixteen of the competition, CFR Cluj-Napoca are currently bottom of Group A and it shouldn’t be too hard a task to defeat them; there’ll be a lot of pressure on Chelsea however and they’ll have to try and overcome that if they’re serious about qualifying.
It wasn’t a good evening at all for Chelsea, Liverpool did a little better against their French opponents however as they defeated Marseille 1-0 and booked their slot in the last sixteen. Liverpool played poorly also, for Liverpool their performance hasn’t cost them though, and they were still able to win the game and see their French opposition out of the competition.
