Tottenham to sign Rob Green in January?

Tottenham will be hoping to sign West Ham’s Rob Green in the January transfer window. Heurelho Gomes has been a disastrous signing for Tottenham so far and the general feeling from fans is that the sooner he leaves the club, the better. Gomes confidence is completely shot at current, he makes some sublime saves but can’t handle the simple task of catching the ball when it comes in from a cross. Teams have quickly caught onto this and when clubs are playing Tottenham they’re all looking to whip it into the six yard box in order to prey of Gomes weakness.

Brazilian born Gomes was excellent at PSV Eindhoven and hence his £7.8 million move to White Hart Lane in the summer, he’s just not coping at all well with the English game however and with every passing match and every latest fumble; his confidence is decreasing and Gomes is becoming more and more of a liability in the Tottenham goal. Rob Green is seen as a strong replacement for Tottenham, and it’s thought that when the January transfer window arrives; Harry Redknapp will be doing his best to lure Robert Green across London to White Hart Lane.

So what will happen to Heurelho Gomes if Robert Green is indeed signed by Tottenham in January, will any teams be willing to purchase him given his current confidence level and failure to perform in England? I feel it’s likely that Gomes will stay at Tottenham until the end of the season and will then be forced to move elsewhere in order to gain first team football. I can’t see him returning to the first team fray at Tottenham if he is replaced with Rob Green, perhaps if he can have a good run in before Christmas though Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will not feel the need to bring in Robert Green and Gomes can work his way into Tottenham’s good books. I think that’s asking a lot though, and if Rob Green isn’t drafted into Tottenham in January then it’s likely that another goalkeeper will be.

Tottenham keep drifting back down the table into the relegation zone at the moment, Redknapp did an excellent job when he first came into the club and really turned it all around for the team; Gomes mistakes are really costing the club at the moment though, and whilst he does make many spectacular saves; it’s the goalkeeping simplicities that he’s failing to grasp at the moment and silly mistakes are presently landing Tottenham in terrible trouble.

Things need to change at Tottenham, and if Gomes doesn’t sort his game out soon then he’s going to be replaced in January. Robert Green looks as though he’s Redknapp’s first choice, if he’s not captured by Tottenham in January though then someone else will be. Time is running out for Gomes to shine, and as the January transfer window draws ever closer, Heurelho Gomes Tottenham playing days look to be numbered.

Come January, Heurelho Gomes will likely be little more than a Brazilian benchwarmer at White Hart Lane.
