Man United and Arsenal into the Carling Cup Quarter Finals

Published by richleigh at 7:29 pm under Soccer News Edit This

Along with Stoke City, Derby County, and Watford; Arsenal and Manchester United tonight edged into the Quarter Finals of the Carling Cup with wins against Wigan and QPR respectively. Whilst a young Arsenal side dominated Wigan with a 3-0 win however, Manchester United did not win their game so impressively and the difference between the two teams was ultimately a 76th minute Carlos Tevez penalty.

Tomorrow will see Chelsea and Liverpool in action, and with Chelsea facing Burnley and Liverpool, Tottenham; the full big four could well be going into the Carling Cup quarter final draw. It’s an interesting Carling Cup this year, and six Premier League teams are likely to be present in the quarter finals of the competition making for a supremely strong final few stages.

So Manchester United and Arsenal are through, and we will find out tomorrow if all of the Big Four are able to make it into the Carling Cup quarter finals. If Tottenham defeat Liverpool tomorrow though then we could well have a repeat of last year’s Carling Cup final yet; Tottenham versus Chelsea. No team has won the League Cup in back-to-back seasons since Nottingham Forest in 1989/1990; can Tottenham become the first club to do it in nearly 20 years? Well, they’ll need t win tomorrow first, and if they do then the back-to-back dream is still very much alive.
